communities of Lincoln Green and
the official launch of the
Flourish showcased exciting work by local and national artists exploring our relationship with nature and the importance of sustainability, community and creative expression.

Eco-Art Club
spring workshops
With a Flourish invited you to explore Lincoln Green’s hidden colours and create art using locally sourced, natural materials.
Participants joined us to learn natural dyeing techniques using flowers and plants found in their own back gardens, explore local gardens and create a series of colourful installations in the Roxby Community Garden.
We deepened our connection to the environment, celebrated a community in bloom and got creative.

Family gala celebrating the communities living in Lincoln Green in the brand-new Roxby Community Garden.
Workshops and performances from Marco Woolf for Opera North, Phil Tang, Leeds Conservatoire and an exclusive sneak peek at our new puppet show 'Michka & Me'. Plus…attendees created seed bombs, bee hotels, bird masks, got their faces painted, sowed some seeds, enjoyed some free food and had a dance.

‘With a Flourish’ art installation created by Michaela Lesayova and members of our eco-art club. A large-scale textile installation, featuring dyes extracted from local flowers and plants, creating a cascade of colour and movement that celebrated Refugee Week and the ‘season of bloom’.
Lord Mayor Cllr Al Gathwaite was in attendance to present the Roxby Community Garden with our Garden of Sanctuary award in recognition of our work creating a welcoming and inclusive community space.
Mafwa Family Picnic

The Mafwa family hosted a summer picnic in the Roxby Community Garden from 11am - 1pm on Thursday 22nd June. Celebrating Refugee Week with friends, family and food.

MLGB Neighbourhood Forum

East Street Arts monthly meeting of the Mabgate, Lincoln Green and Burmantofts Neighbourhood Forum.
Local residents, representatives and businesses of these three neighbourhoods coming together to work on a Neighbourhood plan and run a monthly update for the Forum.

With a Flourish invited participants to explore Lincoln Green’s hidden colours and create art using locally sourced, natural materials. We learnt natural dyeing techniques using flowers and plants found in our own back gardens, explored local gardens and created a series of colourful fabric and fibre installations for the Roxby Community Garden.
With a Flourish: Eco-Art Club kicked off its summer sessions on July 27th by hosting a one-off collaging and creative activity workshop at Patrick Studios based around the stories of East Street Art's 'Hidden Histories of New Briggate' project.
Weekly eco-art club summer workshops with Michaela Lesayova at Leeds Print Workshop resumed on August 3rd.
The final session was a tile painting workshop with artist Katie Surridge in the Patrick Studios project space.

sustainable gardening group

Artist Ling Tan joined the Lincoln Greeners sustainable gardening group to explore the Roxby Community Garden vegetable beds and learn about the different types of edible plants grown in Leeds. This discussion-based session addressed how we could incorporate these ingredients into our favourite Chinese recipes to reduce their carbon footprint and of course, maximise their flavour.
Family Flourish Day:
Harvest

Following the tremendous success of our first Family Flourish Day in May, we were excited to host a second in September! We gathered in the Roxby Community Garden to celebrate the theme of 'Harvest' with a day all about gathering, nurturing and showcasing the diverse stories and creative spirit of a community in bloom.
Flourish is the culmination of 2 years of work to transform a disused playground into a space for residents to play, perform and grow in. The Roxby Community Garden has been created in partnership with Leeds City Council with support from Veolia Environmental Trust, Horticon, Leeds 2023 and Arts Council England.
Mafwa Theatre organisation is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund & Leeds City Council through the arts@leeds programme. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025.
