WHAT WE DO
ABOUT MAFWA THEATRE
Theatre that brings refugees, asylum seekers and settled communities together in Leeds
We use drama and the arts to create work that celebrates our similarities and differences, brings people together and speaks truth to power. We use our platform to highlight and enable development opportunities for artists and theatre makers from migrant backgrounds, advocate for migrant rights and celebrate diverse communities.
How do we work?
AMPLIFYING MIGRANT VOICES
using arts, academic and social platforms to highlight the work of artists from our communities
A UNIVERSAL APPROACH
everyone is invited to become a member and every member’s experience is valued
BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS
identifying and working out how to overcome the barriers that can stop people from engaging in the arts
WORKING TOGETHER
we work together with community and creative partners so that what we do is effective and accountable
CAMPAIGNING
we advocate with and on behalf of migrant voices, working with pro-migrant, pro-refugee advocacy groups as well as advocating for issues that affect our communities
