With a Flourish installation & Garden of Sanctuary ceremony

  • Roxby Community Garden Roxby Close Leeds, England, LS9 United Kingdom (map)

Join us in the newly opened Roxby Community Garden this Refugee Week for a Garden of Sanctuary ceremony and eco-art installation.

We will be unveiling 'With a Flourish', an art piece created by artist Michaela Lesayova and members of our eco-art club. The large-scale textile installation, featuring dyes extracted from local flowers and plants, will be a cascade of colour and movement that celebrates the vibrant communities of Lincoln Green.

We are proud to announce that, in recognition of our work creating a welcoming and inclusive community space, the Roxby Community Garden has been awarded 'Garden of Sanctuary' status. Lord Mayor Cllr Al Gathwaite will be in attendance to present us with this special certificate.

This event is part of ‘Flourish’, Mafwa Theatre’s programme of summer activities and events designed to bring the vibrant communities of Lincoln Green together and celebrate the official launch of the Roxby Community Garden. This is the culmination of 2 years of work to transform a disused playground into a space for residents to play, perform and grow in. Flourish will showcase work by local and national artists exploring our relationship with nature and the importance of sustainability, community and creative expression. The Roxby Community Garden has been created in partnership with Leeds City Council with support from Veolia Environmental Trust, Horticon, Leeds 2023 and Arts Council England.
